About Us

Ms. Joy Yoo, the founder of Joy Music Studio and co-director of Joyful Sound of Music, specializes in teaching children ages 3 and up, as well as beginner to advanced students in piano and other instruments. With a musical journey beginning at the age of six, she has been mentored by diverse musicians from prestigious institutions such as Curtis, Temple University, and Juilliard. Graduating Summa Cum Laude from Temple University Boyer College of Music with a degree in Music Education and Piano Performance, she excelled musically and academically and received numerous honors and scholarships, including recognition in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges. Ms. Yoo holds certifications to teach and conduct ensembles, chorus, and orchestra in various instruments at both public and private schools from kindergarten to 12th grade, and she is also certified as a TESOL/ESL teacher. Her teaching experience includes positions in the Philadelphia, North Penn, Souderton, and Pennridge School Districts, where she taught general music, chorus, and orchestra. Currently, she instructs the high school Orchestra at Dock Mennonite Academy. Actively involved with Joyful Sound of Music alongside her siblings, Ms. Yoo is dedicated to nurturing musical talent. She furthered her education by completing a Master of Music Technology at UVF, enhancing her expertise in the field.

Ms. Sophia Yoo embarked on her musical journey at the age of three, studying under esteemed musicians from Curtis, Temple University, and Juilliard. Additionally, she received guidance from Lee Snyder, a renowned music mentor and Juilliard graduate who studied under Dorothy DeLay and Ivan Galamian. Ms. Yoo's exceptional talent on the violin has garnered her first place in numerous prestigious string competitions. In March 2015, she delivered a masterful performance of Kreisler, showcasing unique choreography in collaboration with the Metropolitan Ballet Company. In 2013, she showcased her skills as a first violinist in the Newman Quartet coached by Sidney Curtiss. She also has soloed with professional orchestras in Pennsylvania and Virginia and served as concertmaster for a chamber orchestra in Virginia in 2011. Additionally, she claimed first place in a distinguished harp competition in 2009. IN addition to teaching violin and piano at JMS, Ms. Yoo tutors students of all ages in math, science, and writing. She holds a degree in electrical engineering with a concentration in computer engineering and a minor in music from Temple University, where she received a full tuition scholarship for her academic excellence. She also served as a teaching assistant for various college courses and provided tutoring in math (Calculus and Statistics), science (Physics and Chemistry), and writing. Ms. Yoo is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Princeton University while still actively involved with the Joyful Sound of Music alongside her siblings to share their music with the community.

Mr. Lloyd Yoo is teaches guitar, contemporary piano, and improvisation at JMS. His musical journey began at the age of three with intensive violin and flute lessons, later expanding to include cello, acoustic guitar, drums, and voice. With proficiency in electric guitar, bass guitar, and ukulele, Mr. Yoo captivates audiences with his remarkable voice and passion for music. In December 2016, he won first place at a global mission conference in Rochester, NY, for his singing and guitar performance. Prior to that, he received an award at a vocal competition while studying under Judith Turano. Mr. Yoo enjoys spontaneously picking up an instrument and singing along. He previously served as a band member in his church worship team as well as a coach at Push the Rock, a Christian sports program in the community. Currently, he is pursuing a degree in electrical engineering with a concentration in computer engineering and a minor in music at Temple University.

Ms. Marina is a highly educated piano professional with extensive training in the field of music. With a background that includes 7 years at a music school, 4 years at a music college, and 5 years at a conservatory, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her teaching. Ms. Marina utilizes professional methodology to instruct students of all ages, specializing in piano performance and creative music. Her experience extends across various educational settings, including music schools, colleges, and universities. Additionally, she has worked as a sound producer for Hohulina Broadcast Corporation and has served as a concertmaster with a variety of instruments. Ms. Marina's passion for music is evident in her dedication to her students' growth and development. She finds joy in witnessing her students' understanding of music blossom and encourages them to express their emotions, soul, and creativity through their performances. Her involvement in music concerts at 6 Miles Church in New Brunswick reflects her commitment to sharing her passion for music with others.

Ms. Amanda is a skilled coloratura soprano, holding a degree in music vocal performance from Grove City College. Her versatile musical background spans classical opera, liturgical, choral, and jazz styles. Currently, she serves as a cantor for a guitar group at Saint Mary Parish every weekend, and she also lends her voice to weddings and funerals in her spare time. With experience in both private voice lessons and group singing instruction, Ms. Amanda enjoys teaching singers of all ages and skill levels. She is passionate about imparting her knowledge and nurturing a profound love for music in developing musicians. Her dedication to sharing her expertise and fostering musical joy makes her a valuable asset to her students' musical journeys.

Ms. Eunice holds a degree in piano performance from Backseok Art University in Korea and further honed her musical skills under Michael Sheadel of the University of Pennsylvania. With a rich background in accompaniment and teaching, she has served as an accompanist for high school and middle school choirs and as a piano instructor at private Christian schools. Ms. Eunice brings over a decade of experience in accompanying church choirs and currently contributes to a church praise band. Her teaching philosophy focuses on inspiring students to cultivate a lifelong enjoyment of piano playing. She emphasizes the development of rhythm comprehension, aiming for students to independently master rhythmic patterns. Ms. Eunice finds fulfillment in teaching students of all ages and is dedicated to nurturing their musical growth and passion.

Mr. Ethan is a dedicated music professional who graduated from Kutztown University with a B.A. in Music, specializing in cello and voice. His passion for both performing and teaching music to students of all levels is evident in his work. Mr. Ethan plans to pursue graduate studies in conducting within the next two to three years. Currently, he is an active member of the Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra and has shares his talents at prestigious venues such as Carnegie-Weill Hall in New York City with the Kutztown University Orchestra. In addition to his performance endeavors, Mr. Ethan has contributed to the musical community as the Assistant Director of the Kutztown University Choir and as the co-founder of the Kutztown Troubadours, a men’s chamber group. His diverse experiences and commitment to music education make him a valuable asset to both his students and the musical community.

Mr. David, a graduate of New York University, is deeply passionate about music and teaching. He embarked on his musical journey at the age of 9, mastering the violin and earning the prestigious position of first chair in his school orchestra. Despite his professional commitments at an audit firm, Mr. David remains dedicated to music, regularly performing at churches during special events and holidays. Additionally, he serves as a Sunday School Teacher, further demonstrating his commitment to education and community involvement. Mr. David firmly believes in the power of patience, enjoyable lessons, and persistence in helping students unlock their full potential across various subjects but especially in music. His enthusiasm for teaching and his belief in the transformative impact of music make him a valuable mentor for aspiring musicians.

Ms. Irina's musical journey began as a young child, and dedicated herself to mastering the piano alongside studying solfeggio, music theory, literature, and choir. With a passion for education and a love for working with children, she pursued a master's degree in education and later expanded her expertise with a degree in auditing and accounting. Combining her educational background with her entrepreneurial spirit, Ms. Irina founded and managed a tutoring school focused on empowering children of all ages to excel academically. However, her enduring love for music led her back to renewing her love of music at Joy Music School. Ms. Irina brings her patience and individual-based teaching approach to make learning music enjoyable for students of all ages. With her guidance, students develop their piano skills while nurturing a deep-seated love for music. Her dedication to fostering a positive and enriching learning environment underscores her commitment to each student's musical journey.

Ms. Olivia began her musical journey at the age of 8 and holds a degree in music with a concentration in piano from the Biola University Conservatory of Music. She has worked as a vocal and choral accompanist for undergraduate conservatory students and has a deep love for collaborating with and supporting others in their musical journey and success. She has also taught and mentored children in various contexts and is passionate about meeting students where they are at and helping them reach their full potential. She desires to share the love of learning, joy of understanding, and peace of giving alongside the gift of music.
