Performances & Concerts: Students have the chance to perform up to six times per music school year and are strongly encouraged to do so. We invite you to share these exciting and memorable events with your family and friends.
Certification Auditions are held for eligible students during the first week of June to inspire excellence. These auditions, lasting approximately 10-15 minutes, may occur within the student's regular music lesson or scheduled on another day. Students will perform in front of their teacher, another musician, or the director.
Qualified string and other instrument players are given the opportunity to perform for the community with the Joyful Sound of Music. Auditions are open to all levels, from beginners to advanced. For details on rehearsal schedules and fees, please inquire.

Ms. Joy, the founder of Joy Music Studio and co-director of Joyful Sound of Music, specializes in teaching children ages 3 and up, as well as beginner to advanced students in piano and other instruments. With a musical journey beginning at the age of six, she has been mentored by diverse musicians from prestigious institutions such as Curtis, Temple University, and Juilliard. Graduating Summa Cum Laude from Temple University Boyer College of Music with a degree in Music Education and Piano Performance, she excelled musically and academically and received numerous honors and scholarships, including recognition in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges. Ms. Joy holds certifications to teach and conduct ensembles, chorus, and orchestra in various instruments at both public and private schools from kindergarten to 12th grade, and she is also certified as a TESOL/ESL teacher. Her teaching experience includes positions in the Philadelphia, North Penn, Souderton, and Pennridge School Districts, where she taught general music, chorus, and orchestra. Currently, she instructs the high school Orchestra at Dock Mennonite Academy. Actively involved with Joyful Sound of Music alongside her siblings, Ms. Joy is dedicated to nurturing musical talent. She furthered her education by completing a Master of Music Technology at UVF, enhancing her expertise in the field.

Ms. Sophia embarked on her musical journey at the age of three, studying under esteemed musicians from Curtis, Temple University, and Juilliard. Additionally, she received guidance from Lee Snyder, a renowned music mentor and Juilliard graduate who studied under Dorothy DeLay and Ivan Galamian. Ms. Sophia's exceptional talent on the violin has garnered her first place in numerous prestigious string competitions. In March 2015, she delivered a masterful performance of Kreisler, showcasing unique choreography in collaboration with the Metropolitan Ballet Company. In 2013, she showcased her skills as a first violinist in the Newman Quartet coached by Sidney Curtiss. She also has soloed with professional orchestras in Pennsylvania and Virginia and served as concertmaster for a chamber orchestra in Virginia in 2011. Additionally, she claimed first place in a distinguished harp competition in 2009. IN addition to teaching violin and piano at JMS, Ms. Sophia tutors students of all ages in math, science, and writing. She holds a degree in electrical engineering with a concentration in computer engineering and a minor in music from Temple University, where she received a full tuition scholarship for her academic excellence. She also served as a teaching assistant for various college courses and provided tutoring in math (Calculus and Statistics), science (Physics and Chemistry), and writing. Ms. Sophia is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Princeton University while still actively involved with the Joyful Sound of Music alongside her siblings to share their music with the community.

Prior to that, he received an award at a vocal competition while studying under Judith Turano. Mr. Lloyd enjoys spontaneously picking up an instrument and singing along. He previously served as a band member in his church worship team as well as a coach at Push the Rock, a Christian sports program in the community. Currently, he is pursuing a degree in electrical engineering with a concentration in computer engineering and a minor in music at Temple University.

Mr. Josiah, a graduate of Manhattan School of Music received his Bachelor of Music in classical violin. After dating his instrument for thirteen years, he decided to dedicate himself to the violin at the age of sixteen while performing Stravinsky’s “Firebird” at the Idyllwild Arts Festival. Since then, he has performed in notable venues like SF Jazz, where he played in an orchestra backing renowned trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire. First violinist of a family band described by New York Magazine as “head turning”, he has appeared with his family on ABC Nightline, and co-starred in a TLC special entitled “Big City Big Family .” He was also a three-time recipient of the Krauter Violin Scholarship. Currently, Mr. Josiah attends Temple Law School’s evening JD program on a Beasley full-tuition scholarship, after which he aspires to become an attorney in Philadelphia while remaining a lifelong advocate for the cultural importance of music in America.
