Performances & Concerts: Students are given the opportunity to perform up to six times a year and are encouraged to perform. Invite your family and friends to share this exciting and memorable event.
Certification Auditions are held for qualified students during the first week of June to encourage students to excel. It is held during the student's music lesson for about 10-15 minutes and the student will perform in front of his/her teacher, another musician, or the director.
Qualified string and other instrument players are given the opportunity to join the Joyful Sound of Music in a chamber orchestra or ensemble as they perform for the community. All levels from beginners to advanced are available for audition. Inquire about rehearsal schedules and fees.

Ms. Joy Yoo is the owner of Joy Music Studio as well as the co-director of Joyful Sound of Music. She is specialized in teaching little ones, ages 3 and up, and instructing beginner to advanced students in piano as well as other instruments. She started her music education from the age of six and was under the tutelage of diverse musicians from Curtis, Temple University, & Juilliard. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Temple University Boyer College of Music with a degree in Music Education and a concentration in Piano Performance. Throughout her four years, she was on the Dean's lists and nominated as one of twelve Teacher Champions in the Education department as well as the Music department by Temple Professors; she was a recipient of many honors awards and scholarships including Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges. Ms. Joy Yoo is certified to teach and conduct ensembles, chorus, and orchestra at public and private schools from grades K-12 in guitar, strings, percussion, woodwinds, brass, and theory; she is also certified as a TESOL/ESL teacher. She taught in the Philadelphia and Pennridge School District as a K-5 general music teacher, a 4-5 chorus teacher, and a 3-5 orchestra teacher. She is currently instructing the high school Orchestra at Dock Mennonite Academy. In addition, she is actively involved with the Joyful Sound of Music with her siblings. She also completed a Master of Music Technology at UVF.

Ms. Sophia Yoo started her music education at the young age of three and was under the tutelage of diverse musicians from Curtis, Temple University, & Juilliard. She was also under the tutelage of Lee Snyder, a graduate of Juilliard and well-known music mentor in the violin world who studied under Dorothy DeLay and Ivan Galamian. Ms. Sophia Yoo won first place in numerous prestigious string competitions over the years. In March 2015, she brought a masterful performance of Kreisler to the stage with unique choreography in collaboration with the Metropolitan Ballet Company. Throughout 2013, she served as first violin in the Newman Quartet coached by Sidney Curtiss. She has soloed with professional orchestras in Pennsylvania and Virginia and was also concert-mistress for a chamber orchestra based in Virginia throughout 2011. In 2009, she won first place in a distinguished harp competition. Ms. Sophia Yoo is certified to teach violin and piano at JMS and also tutors math, science, and writing to students of all ages. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D in electrical engineer at Princeton after obtaining a degree in electrical engineer with a concentration in computer engineering and a minor in music at Temple University, where she received a full tuition scholarship with the Presidential Scholarship for her academic excellence. She was also a TA (teaching assistance) for various college courses and tutors math (Calculus and Statistics), science (Physics and Chemistry), and writing at Temple University. She is also actively involved with the Joyful Sound of Music with her siblings.

She began her journey in music at the age of three with the piccolo and flute and expanded into other musical instruments, such as the piano and violin. She won first prize competitions with the flute at several TCY Competitions, including a duo performance of A Dialogue for the Flute and Violin in 2016 with her sister, Ms. Sophia Yoo. In addition, Ms. Kara Yoo was a recipient of many scholarship awards at SMS. She also performed Terschak with the Metropolitan Ballet Company in 2014. In addition, she was a coach at Push the Rock, a Christian sports program in our community. She graduated with a degree in electrical engineer with a concentration in computer engineering and a minor in music at Temple University. She currently works at KBR and is also actively involved with the Joyful Sound of Music with her siblings.

A couple of years later, he enhanced his music education with lessons in cello, acoustic guitar, drums, and voice. He also plays electric guitar, bass guitar, and ukulele, and awes his audience with his amazing voice and his passion for the guitar and piano. In December 2016, he won first place by singing and playing on the guitar at a global mission conference in Rochester, NY. In addition, he received an award at a vocal competition earlier in 2016 while under the tutelage of Judith Turano. He loves to just pick an instrument and sing along with it. She has experience in working at music schools, colleges and universities. She worked as a sound producer on TV in Hohulina Broadcast Corporation. She also had experience working as a concertmaster with different instruments. For many years, she participated in music concerts at 6 Miles Church in New Brunswick. She loves to work with people and see her students grow up in understanding music and have her students showcase their emotions, soul, and creativity through their performances.

Her teaching experience has included private voice lessons for young and young at heart voices as well as group singing lessons. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with singers of all levels to encourage developing musicians to cultivate a deep joy for music.
Ms. Eunice Han has received her degree in piano performance from Backseok Art University in Korea, and she refined her musical ability under Michael Sheadel of the University of Pennsylvania. She has been the accompanist of high school and middle school choirs and a piano teacher at private Christian schools over the past several years. A

She has been the accompanist of high school and middle school choirs and a piano teacher at private Christian schools over the past several years. Additionally, she has more than a decade’s worth of experience in accompanying church choirs and currently is a part of church praise band. Her teaching philosophy consists of inspiring her students to enjoy playing the piano in their later stages of life. She encourages students to develop the ability to learn and count rhythms, allowing them to proficiently play rhythms without her guidance. She enjoys teaching students of all ages.

Mr. Ethan Gallagher is a graduate of Kutztown University and is passionate about performing and teaching music to all different kinds of students! He received his B.A in Music with a focus in cello and voice, and plans to attend grad school for conducting in the next two to three years. He currently performs with the Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra, and has performed at Carnegie-Weill Hall in New York City with the Kutztown University Orchestra. He was also Assistant Director of the Kutztown University Choir, as well as co-founder of the Kutztown Troubadours, a men’s chamber group.
